Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith has ‘significant’ knee injury

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly told reporters after today’s Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State that linebacker Jaylon Smith suffered a “significant” knee injury that forced him from the game in the first quarter. Kelly’s announcement was reported on Twitter by Doug Lesmerises of Cleveland.com.

Smith, a junior from Fort Wayne, has not formally declared for the draft but depending on the severity of his injury, that could be coming soon. He had 114 tackles this season and has 283 for his college career, and also projects as a mid-first round pick now.

Just the same, until we know for sure just how injured Smith is or if he confirms something himself, to say what he will or will not do remains pure speculation.
