Michigan State was able to hang around for the first half of the Cotton Bowl against Alabama on Thursday. After the half, however, the game got away from them en route to getting shutout, 38-0. In that third quarter, the Crimson Tide scored three touchdowns, finally busting through a Spartan defense that had contained them for the most part in the first half.
And for apparently Cotton Bowl officials, that third quarter removed all doubt on the result.
According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, when he asked to see a “Won Not Done” tee shirt for Michigan State after the game, officials said that they probably “destroyed” them in the third quarter.
At end of game, officials were passing out Bama’s winning T-shirts. I asked for a MSU T-shirt. “We probably destroyed them in 3rd quarter"

Of course, that was likely a light-hearted joke, but it’ll still sting in the hearts of Michigan State fans.
