Tennessee head coach Butch Jones today announced in a statement that defensive coordinator John Jancek and the program were parting ways. Jones’ statement was reported on Twitter by local radio host Josh Ward.

Jancek had been at Tennessee since Jones’ arrival from Cincinnati in 2013 and has also coached at Cincinnati, Georgia and other programs. The Vols went 9-4 in 2015 and ranked 45th in total defense and 25th in points allowed per game, so just why Jancek is being let go when the team is clearly moving in the right direction seems a bit odd.
