With the St. Louis Rams and, potentially, San Diego Chargers moving to Los Angeles, there is a question regarding what happens with the third team that filed for relocation: the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders ultimately bowed out of the process when it was realized that the joint plan with the Chargers to move to Carson, CA wasn’t going to pass. Because of that, the Raiders will be remaining in Oakland. However, that doesn’t mean the door is closed to relocation.
If the Chargers don’t exercise the option to move within a year, the Raiders can chose to do so instead. Should the Raiders choose to remain in Oakland permanently, the organization will be given $100 million to help with the building of a new stadium in Oakland.
Lastly, there is the chance that the team could move to a different market like the now empty St. Louis market or somewhere new like Portland, OR or San Antonio. A contingency plan was never revealed by the organization though owner Mark Davis did state during the press conference to announce the vote that they will “get it right”.
Clearly, the situation is still fluid in Oakland
