Xavier coach Chris Mack: Edmond Sumner ‘very close’ to returning

Earlier this month, Xavier point guard Edmond Sumner suffered a head injury against Villanova that resulted in him being stretchered off the court. Since that moment, Sumner’s status has been up in the air.

The redshirt freshman is hoping that he will be able to return to the court soon and head coach Chris Mack believes there is a strong possibility that will be the case.

“He’s getting very, very close. He has no signs when it comes to the protocol so he’s going to be in sooner rather than later,” Mack told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I don’t think he’s been ruled out. He saw the doctor earlier this afternoon. It’s to my understanding that he still won’t be ready for (Tuesday) night.”

This season, Sumner is averaging 11.0 points. 3.2 boards and 3.1 assists.

Once Sumner is able to clear concussion protocol, his presence will be welcomed back on the court by the Musketeers.
