Alexa can now read Kindle books to you

In yet another sign that we are slowly succumbing to our robot overloads, we can now be read to by them.

Amazon has released an update for it’s Amazon Echo device that now allows Alexa to read your Kindle books to you. The new update is free of charge for all users.

The service, which is called Kindle Books by Alexa, allows the soothing sounds of Alexa to read any book you may have in your Kindle library. The service features the text-to-speech technology that is used for Wikipedia articles by the Echo.

This may sound like Amazon’s Audible service. However, this isn’t paid nor is it read with any sort of emotion. Just imagine a monotone reading that will put you to sleep in school, and that’s what you have in the Kindle Books by Alexa.

Still, this is sure to be a pretty popular service for those who don’t want to pay for Audible. It’ll also be interesting to see where this goes in the future as more updates roll in.
