Connor Cook is no golden child. He’s a talented, strong, accurate quarterback, with a love for the off field dramatic. Recently, he’s added to that list, by bull dogging Ohio State legend Archie Griffin and skipping the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
As result, his stock for the 2016 NFL Draft has been in question. Many scouts are worried whether he loves being a celebrity moreso than a gritty winner. Players like Matt Leinart or Johnny Manziel come to mind.
Talented college quarterbacks who love(d) the spotlight a little too much.
With that said, Denver Bronco wide out, Bennie Fowler isn’t having it. And he’s right. Fowler feels less intrigued to understand Cook’s off field personality and more his actual intangibles and skills.
“I think he will be a great NFL quarterback, and I don’t understand all this speculation of off-the-field issues or him not being a great leader,” Fowler said, according to the MLive Media Group. “You don’t win how many games he won in college without being a great leader.”
Which is 1000 percent true. Great players aren’t always likable. And do they need to be? I don’t think so. Did Kobe Bryant care what players or coaches or fans thought about him? No. The result? Five rings.
In a month, Cook will join the pre-draft combines for assessments. His skills will be the major facet in question. And I think he’ll wow.
