Scout calls Jake Coker a ‘poor man’s Mike Glennon’

As Senior Bowl week in Mobile, Alabama comes to its end, there is plenty of buzz coming from the scouting community about what we learned throughout a week of practices.

Unfortunately for Alabama quarterback Jake Coker, the buzz surrounding him as a prospect is not too positive.

Coker was underwhelming throughout practice and appeared to be on his way towards being a late-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. That projection remains the same, while one NFL scout had a not too positive review regarding the national champion signal-caller.

According to Walter Football, one scout said he believes Coker is a “poor man’s Mike Glennon.”

Ouch.

Glennon has found his spot in the NFL as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup. To be fair, the Bucs have received trade interest regarding Glennon, but they feel he is valuable to have on the roster incase Jameis Winston goes down with an injury. Coker does have the strong arm and size, so we can see where the comparison comes from.

There are far worse things than being a career backup in the NFL, so perhaps the evaluation on Coker is not as negative as it initially seems.

Regardless, we will have to wait and see how Coker handles himself at the next level before we can determine whether the comparison was just.
