Syracuse boots two defensive ends off football team

Syracuse has dismissed freshmen defensive ends Qaadir Sheppard and Amir Ealey from the program for “violations of team policy,” according to Syracuse.com. Both Sheppard and Ealey were suspended indefinitely back in November due to allegedly failed drug tests.

As a result of these dismissals, the Orange now have just two defensive ends on scholarship, and inexperienced ones at that: redshirt freshmen Jake Pickard and Kenny Carter. Yes, three defensive ends were added on National Signing Day yesterday and it should be an open competition on the edge, but this is the last thing that coach Dino Babers needed in his first year with Syracuse.

The Orange’s offense should see some improvement come the 2016 season, but the lack of experience on the pass rush could wind up being a problem.
