Iowa State C Jameel McKay remains suspended

Iowa State center Jameel McKay is still suspended despite being able to practice with the team, coach Steve Prohm said to reporters today, including Travis Hines of The Ames Tribune.

“He’ll practice (Monday) because I want him in practice,” Prohm said, “but game-wise, he’s suspended.”

McKay did not play in the Cyclones’ win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Saturday. No official word has been given regarding why he was suspended, but reports suggest that there are issues with how he has been practicing. McKay also has been playing on a bum knee, so perhaps the two issues go hand-in-hand?

Either way, McKay’s return to the court cannot come soon enough. He leads the Cyclones with nine rebounds per game and Iowa State are 17-6 (6-4 Big 12) on the season, quietly making a case as a tournament sleeper.
