Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict to meet with Roger Goodell

Because of his actions during his team’s Wild Card loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in January, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was suspended for three games to start the 2016 season.

Burfict, who clearly doesn’t agree with the punishment, wants to get his suspension reduced or eliminated. And it appears he’ll get a chance to make his case.

According to reports, Burfict will be meeting NFL comissioner Roger Goodell to talk about the suspension.

Should the suspension be upheld, Burfict will lose $502,941 in salary next season. In 2015, Burfict was fined nearly $70,000 for on-field safety violations, which ultimately led to his suspension after the hit on Antonio Brown in the playoffs.

Burfict may have an argument in his favor after the lack of discipline against Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier for his clear helmet-to-helmet hit on Bengals running back Gio Bernard.

The meeting is expected within a week, with a decision to come in the very near future.

Should the suspension be upheld, the Bengals may look to add to the linebacker position in the draft or free agency to add depth to make up for the loss.
