Jaylon Smith earns Derrick Johnson comparison

Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith earned quite the comparison from an unnamed ex-AFC defensive coach Tuesday.

As reported by NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein, the ex-AFC coach said, “he reminds me so much of DJ (Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson) when he came out. Same frame, same speed and same playmaking ability. Both of those guys are made for the pro game.”

Smith had displayed a similar combination of speed athleticism as Johnson before he suffered a knee injury. Knee injuries never go unnoticed by pro evaluators, and thus many are thinking that Smith injury could cost him come draft day.

Still, it shouldn’t set him back too much. Just look at Todd Gurley.
