After Manny Pacquiao made pretty disparaging anti-gay remarks, one of his biggest endorsement partners has severed ties with the former boxing champion.
Nike has announced that the sports apparel and equipment company has ended its nearly 10-year relationship with Pacquiao after he said that legalizing same-sex marriage would make humans “worse than animals”.
Nike’s statement to TMZ can be read below.
“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”
TMZ is also reporting that Pacquiao tried to save his deal with Nike up until the final decision was made. Pacquiao did apologize for his comments, but it clearly wasn’t enough to save the millions of dollars he’s going to be losing from the sponsorship.
