Ben Simmons didn’t start for LSU due to academics

LSU Tigers star freshman Ben Simmons did not start in Saturday night’s game against the Tennessee Volunteers.

There was initially no word on the exact reason for Simmons beginning the game on the bench, but now we have learned why. According to LSU head coach Johnny Jones, Simmons was punished due to academics.

However, the punishment did not last long.

Simmons entered the game after the first media timeout. Jones says that he will further address Simmons’ academic issues after the game.

Simmons is currently averaging  19.3 points, 12 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game. All marks lead the way for LSU, so they will be hoping that his academic situation is not serious.

Considering he was able to enter the game after just a few moments, it is safe to say that there is reason for optimism.
