Ron and Joanna Garutti, Rutgers football boosters and die-hard fans, made a hefty donation to overhaul the Rutgers football strength and conditioning program. They contributed $1.25 million as a vote of confidence in new head coach Chris Ash.
“We absolutely hope that it will encourage others to give. Quite frankly, we know we need to change some attitudes around Rutgers and one of those relates to giving,” said Ron Garutti.
The Garutti’s also endow a football scholarship to Rutgers in addition to being members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Overseers and the Board of Governors-headed Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics. Ron is also an alumnus, graduated in 1967.
The Ron and Joanna Garutti Strength and Conditioning Center should be in business by the start of summer workouts for the players. The Garutti’s believe that this will be the start of the revolution of Rutgers football, a chance for them to prove what they’re made of.
“We don’t want to hear any more of ‘Rutgers is a sleeping giant’ or ‘It’s time’ with no action behind it. We recognize that not everybody can give a million dollars, but it’s time for everybody to step forward.”
