Miami Hurricanes rising junior linebacker Marques Gayot is leaving the program to pursue other opportunities, according to a report from Susan Miller Degnan of The Miami Herald.
A former three-star recruit from the Miami area, Gayot appeared primarily as a special teamer during his brief tenure in Coral Gables, posting just 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Despite the reason given for his leaving the program, there could be another one.
Let’s not forget that in practice last season, Gayot suffered a serious neck injury in practice and was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. Naturally, he missed the rest of the season.
That said, it’s probably for the best that Gayot end his football career. Neck injuries are no joke, especially when they involve one being airlifted to medical treatment by helicopter, so better for Gayot to pursue opportunities that don’t put him at risk of ending up in a wheelchair.
