Chris Rose calls Carson Wentz ‘next former Browns QB’ on live TV

The NFL Scouting Combine is being broadcast live on NFL Network, and longtime commentator Chris Rose is on the scene as a panelist. Unfortunately for Rose, he had an unfortunate slip of the tongue that’s either a bit harsh or incredibly accurate.

As North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz prepared to run the 40 yard dash, Rose was caught on live television referring to Wentz as the “next former Browns quarterback.”

Now, in order for that statement to be true, two things would need to happen. The Cleveland Browns would need to draft Wentz with the No. 2 pick in April’s NFL Draft and Wentz would need to be an epic draft bust.

Just one problem. Wentz has drawn rave reviews from practically every scout under the sun.

Despite that, Rose’s words could hold some water. The Browns are easily the most poorly-run organization in the NFL and have had 16 different players play quarterback for them since 2006. A new day is set to dawn with new head coach Hue Jackson in charge and the eventual reinstatement of wide receiver Josh Gordon, so Wentz is in a position to succeed should Cleveland draft him.

But draft stock is meaningless and unless Wentz produces on the field, Rose’s labeling him as he did will wind up being valid.
