Auburn TE Chris Laye to transfer

Auburn tight end Chris Laye announced on his Facebook page that he would be transferring out of the program, with the announcement coming three days before the Tigers are set to begin spring practices.

I have chosen to leave the Auburn football team. I want to thank the people that helped me through the journey and the fans.

A former three-star recruit from the Atlanta area, Laye never recorded a single catch during his brief tenure with the Tigers, though reported he was set to see a greater role in the offense come the fall. Laye will now have to sit out a year, per NCAA rules, but has not given any indication as to where he’ll transfer. He had offers from Virginia, Louisville, Boston College and Vanderbilt prior to committing to Auburn, so perhaps they will be in the mix.
