Joey Bosa got up at 3 a.m. for 4:30 a.m. drug test this week

Ohio State defensive lineman Joey Bosa was disappointed with his 40 yard dash time at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis today, and now we may know why. According to a tweet from CollegeSpun’s Andrew Holleran, Bosa did not get much sleep at one point this week for an interesting reason.

That reason? Bosa had to get up at 3 in the morning for a drug test set to take place at 4:30 a.m.

Now, though Combine drug tests are important to conduct and are basically par for the course, is it really necessary to have them in the middle of the night and/or right before sunrise? These are players who are about to work out very intensely, so they should be as rested as possible.

Not for nothing, but having the tests conducted that early seems just a little bit excessive. Then again, it also answers the question as to which players may have gone out at night that week and which ones stayed in ahead of their workout.

The good news is that despite his disappointing 40 time, Bosa should still be a top pick regardless of if his being tired had anything to do with his workout performance.
