Cyrus Jones predicts Alabama’s 2016 starting QB

Another year, another season where there are tons of questions surrounding who will be Alabama’s starting quarterback. Now that Jacob Coker has graduated, the Crimson Tide are in need of another field general to guide the offense and if one were to ask former defensive back Cyrus Jones, who is currently at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the job will be won by redshirt sophomore Cooper Bateman as opposed to redshirt freshman Blake Barnett.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, including Alex Martin Smith of SEC Country, Jones further elaborated.

“I’d probably say Cooper,” Jones said at the NFL combine Saturday afternoon. “He’s a little bit older. I think that gives him a little edge.”

Given how Coker wasn’t named Alabama’s starter until right before the start of the season, fans shouldn’t be surprised if the quarterback battle is drawn out once again. Bateman has his perks as a starter, especially being a former four-star recruit from Salt Lake City, but Barnett has his merits too in being a five-star talent from California.

Both men are incredibly talented, so stay tuned to Campus Sports for any updates on the quarterback battle in Tuscaloosa!
