The finalists for the 2016 Oscar Robertson Trophy, given by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to whomever they vote as the national player of the year in men’s basketball, have been named.
The 11 finalists are as follows:
- Grayson Allen, SG, Duke, Sophomore
- Malcolm Brogdon, SG, Virginia, Senior
- Kris Dunn, G, Providence, Junior
- Buddy Hield, SG, Oklahoma, Senior
- Brice Johnson, PF, North Carolina, Senior
- Georges Niang, F, Iowa State, Senior
- Jakob Poeltl, C, Utah, Sophomore
- Ben Simmons, F, LSU, Freshman
- Tyler Ulis, PG, Kentucky, Sophomore
- Jarrod Uthoff, SF, Iowa, Senior
- Denzel Valentine, SG, Michigan State, Senior
Previous winners of the award include Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Michael Jordan and, of course, Robertson himself. This year’s crop of finalists each brings something special to the table, be it Valentine’s versatility, Poeltl’s dominance in the paint, Simmons’ ceiling or Hield’s shooting abilities, but one thing is certain.
In 2016, crowning a winner is going to prove to be a tough task.
