Kentucky head coach John Calipari today offered an update on the status of injured junior forward Derek Willis, who has missed the last two games due to a sprained ankle. Per a post from the basketball team’s official Twitter, it’s not looking like Willis will be back against Auburn tomorrow night.
Cal says Derek Willis ran up and down the practice court yesterday. "I would say he's getting closer. I would doubt he plays tomorrow."

A former three-star recruit from the Louisville area, the 6-foot-9 Willis ranks fifth on Kentucky with four rebounds per game. The Wildcats have had issues rebounding all season, but still are tied for first place in the SEC.
But Kentucky has also lost two of three and really needs Willis back as soon as possible. The guards have played incredibly well, but Kentucky needs strong interior defense if it wants to even sniff a chance at making a run at the Final Four in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
That starts with Willis coming back and though it’s great that he’s running in practice, he is needed more in game action. Stay tuned to Campus Sports for updates on his recovery!
