We have heard of former basketball players making the jump to football and it working out pretty well for them. Both Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez did it and they both have gone on to have Hall of Fame-like careers in the NFL.
It looks like another basketball star could be following their path. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Baylor basketball superstar Rico Gathers is going to be playing football, but he will take the path Jimmy Graham did by finishing his career with the Bears instead of making the immediate jump to the NFL.
As it stands now, Baylor forward Rico Gathers plans to play TE at Baylor next season rather than try NFL. Smart move by Gathers.

This could end up being a huge snag for head coach Art Briles. Gathers measures in at six-foot-six and 275 pounds, which makes for a perfect tight end for any team.
Of course, we all know that Gathers has a pretty impressive vertical, he will just have to get used to running routes and catching a different-shaped ball.
What do you think, Baylor fans? Will this end up being a smart move for Gathers and the football team?
