Conor McGregor wants to do it all.
The current UFC featherweight champion said that he would be more than open to the idea of taking on retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a traditional boxing match. McGregor was asked about the idea in an interview with BT Sport, and had a pretty great response.
“I’m open to discussions, come at me,” said McGregor via Bleacher Report “But I hold the key and it’s me who holds the key to the fight game. I am open minded, I am open to discussion, I love competition, I love fighting. It would be nice to make that fight if the fans were interested and wanted to see it.”
It’s hard to not see the fans being interested in a fight between these two. However, after the ripoff that was Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquio, would fans be willing to pay the type of money to see this fight as they did last year? It’s hard to imagine.
But the Mayweather fight is a hypothetical. Right now, McGregor has to focus on his bout with Nate Diaz at UFC 196 on Saturday night.
