Georgia running back Keith Marshall had the fastest overall 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week and thus earned $50,000 from Adidas for running the dash in 4.29 seconds.
Driving home to Raleigh from Athens last night, Marshall spoke to DawgNation about his plans for the money.
That’s quite the responsible decision on Marshall’s end. Then again, he does have a degree in finance, so he probably knows what he’s talking about.
But Marshall is probably also looking to protect himself and his family by letting the money sit in his account. Keep in mind that despite his 40 time, his NFL future is still up in the air. He arrived at Georgia as a five-star recruit, but saw his college career derailed by a knee injury.
Thus, by putting the $50,000 in a Merrill Lynch account, Marshall has a nice little nest egg going should his NFL career not pan out or if the injury bug bites him again and he has to stop playing.
Then again, with a degree in finance and a good head on his shoulders, Marshall should be just fine.
