Florida State offensive lineman Chad Mavety will be sidelined for “at least the spring” due to a cardiac issue, according to an announcement from head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Fisher made it clear that Mavety could be back by the summertime, but also stressed how important it was that a cardiac issue not be taken lightly.
“We’re having to evaluate (him) and it may be tough,” Fisher said. “It’s nothing he can control or anybody can control. It’s something we found so it’s a safety issue.”
A former four-star recruit out of Long Island’s Nassau Community College, Mavety played in nine games last year, starting eight. He is versatile enough that he can play both guard and right tackle, with The Orlando Sentinel reporting that Mavety ““would have been penciled in as a starter at either spot this spring.”
That said, cardiac issues are serious, so stay tuned to Campus Sports for any further updates on Mavety’s recovery!
FSU begins spring practices on March 16.
