Iowa’s Brant Gressel cited for public intoxication

Iowa defensive lineman Brant Gressel was cited for public intoxication in Iowa City last night, according to an official press release from the Hawkeyes.

A rising redshirt junior, Gressel has not appeared in any games for Iowa. Per the release, he will be “subject to established university protocol in regards to the UI student life code of conduct and team rules and regulations set for members of the football program.”

That probably means that Gressel is likely looking at a one-game suspension, as public intoxication is not the absolute worst thing for which one can be cited. Moreover, Iowa higher-ups are still gathering information as to what exactly happened that led Gressel to receive the citation.

Hopefully, nothing too crazy happened. Gressel has the opportunity to be a key member of Iowa’s defense next year and if he misses extended time, he is if no use to the team.
