Being broke is a rite of passage as a college student. Collecting change and using it to buy dinner off the dollar menu, donating blood for rent money or if you’re Kentucky fullback Thomas Collins (pictured above, no. 48), you steal a parking meter.
According to WKYT-TV of Lexington, Ken. the 23-year-old senior walk-on was arrested on charges of public intoxication, criminal mischief, theft and fleeing and evading.
A police report says an officer saw Collins and another person walking on the sidewalk on East Maxwell Street. The police report says Collins was carrying a parking meter. When they saw the officer, they took off running, according to the report.
“The suspects saw my vehicle and placed the parking meter down,” the report says. “I activated my emergency equipment and pulled up beside them.”
The officer’s report says he yelled for them to stop and get down to the ground. Collins stayed and “admitted to taking the parking meter” because it was on the ground.
A junior college transfer in 2013, Collins started the first two games of 2015, although he did not record a carry. He did not play at all in 2014 after redshirting the season before.
