Illinois upsets Iowa in Big Ten Quarterfinal

Illinois dug deep and took advantage of a flat-looking Iowa team to pull off a 68-66 upset in an absolute nailbiter of a quarterfinal in the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. Jalen Coleman-Lands led the Illini with 17 points as Illinois forced 18 turnovers and also managed 20 assists as a team.

This was a much-needed win for Illinois and head coach John Groce, who dealt with injuries to his players throughout the season. The Illini went 13-18 (5-13 Big Ten) and just looked lost for most of the season as Groce tried tirelessly to find the right formula.

But now Illinois has all the momentum it needs heading into its matchup with Purdue tomorrow. Iowa looked as flat as can be, as not even 21 points from star Jared Uthoff and 29 from Peter Jok could jump-start the Hawkeyes.

The fact of the matter is that the Illini are running on all cylinders and may have the upper hand against a Purdue team whose guards have struggled., so stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates from their path!
