Who knew that being told you have “ballerina moves” would be beneficial for someone on a football field.
According to MMQB’s Robert Klemko, one NFL scout told him that Louisville defensive tackle is a “300-pounder with ballerina moves.” And that’s being used in the most positive of ways.
Klemko mentions that Rankins was so impressive during his pro day on Wednesday that he very well could jump above Alabama’s A’Shawn Robinson as the top interior defensive lineman in this year’s class. If you’ve followed the Campus Sports Mock Drafts, you know that he’s already surpassed him based on his showing at the combine.
Rankins is a big man who moves like he’s a much smaller defensive end or linebacker. He’s shown the ability to not only help in the run game, but succeed in the pass rush as well. He’s a top 10 pick in our book due to his overall potential, let alone his skill level. It’s hard to see that changing between now and the draft, unless something major occurs.
