Top BJJ athlete Mackenzie Dern to make MMA debut in July


If you are a mixed martial arts fan with a special appreciation for the sport of jiu jitsu, the news that Mackenzie Dern’s MMA debut is set for this summer has to bring a smile to your face.

On Thursday, it was announced that Dern, who is the world’s top female BJJ black belt competitor by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), has signed with Legacy FC and her debut will take place on July 22nd in Dallas, Texas in the 115lb strawweight division.

No opponent has been named at this time.

“I hope I can represent jiu-jitsu well and put on a good performance,” said Dern, via Fighters Only. “Of course, I will try to be aggressive, but it’s my first fight, so I will still feel everything, see what I have to improve.”

For her MMA debut, Dern is training with former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at The MMA Lab.
