The New England Patriots have promoted Steve Belichick, son of head coach Bill, to safeties coach, per NFL.com. Steve Belichick’s promotion was announced earlier today when the Patriots released their 2016 coaching staff.
The younger Belichick has been with the Patriots for the past four seasons, but this is the first time we have had an idea of what his position is. Prior to working for New England, he played lacrosse at Rutgers and was a walk-on long snapper for the football team.
On top of that, Steve Belichick appears to have some fans amongst the players, namely former Pats linebacker Darius Fleming.
“Steve’s awesome,” Fleming said. “Really intelligent guy, knows the game in and out. I mean, I look at him just as I look at all the other coaches. He knows what he’s talking about. If I have a question, he answers it right away. He’s a younger guy, and he’s like a friend also, but he’s a hell of a coach.”
Perhaps this is the start of the younger Belichick following in his father’s footsteps? Stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates on this story!
