Josh Chapman, former Colts NT, joins Alabama’s staff

Former Indianapolis Colts nose tackle Josh Chapman has come home after a brief NFL career. According to Michael Casagrande of AL.com, Chapman is back in Tuscaloosa and serving as the Crimson Tide’s assistant strength and conditioning coach.

According to players, Chapman has been around since early March and has been a vocal presence, and was even around for Alabama’s Pro Day.

“He’s always critiquing us,” defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson said. “We’re always watching extra film with him and stuff like that. He critiques us. He’s just a good person to help because he’s been in the position we’re in.”

It also helps that Chapman too played for Nick Saban at Alabama, having arrived on campus in 2007 from the Birmingham area’s Hoover High School. He had 88 tackles (13.5 for a loss) and 2.5 sacks during his time in Tuscaloosa and was then selected by the Colts in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

After only making it as a rotational player in the NFL, he has thus decided to return to where it all began.

And given the rave reviews Chapman has been receiving in his new role, odds are greater than none that Alabama will once again head into the new season looking like a well-oiled machine despite losing key players from last year’s championship team.
