Finally, mixed martial arts fans will have the opportunity to see Cris Cyborg make her highly-anticipated debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. On Monday, it was announced that the Invicta FC featherweight champion will be making her debut on May 14 at UFC 198.

UFC officials confirmed the catchweight fight will take place at 145-pounds, five pounds below Cyborg’s usual weight class and five pounds above the UFC’s women’s bantamweight class.

ufccyborgIf victorious, it will be interesting to see what the UFC has in store for Cyborg next.

The 140-pound catchweight allows Cyborg to fight under the UFC banner while seeing if she can successfully cut to 135 pounds. If she can, potential bouts with Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm and Miesha Tate will all be on the table. It’s a huge opportunity for women’s MMA to continue growing and receiving exposure in the Octagon.

UFC 198 is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between current champion Fabricio Werdum and top contender Stipe Miocic. The co-main event features a middleweight clash between Vitor Belfort and  Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The event will be held at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil.
