Penn State’s football program is one most storied in sports history and has seen a number of Hall of Fame players pass through its halls, including running back Franco Harris and offensive lineman Mike Munchak, so one can understand why the slogan the team has chosen for the spring is a bit puzzling.
That slogan was posted to Twitter by ESPN’s Josh Moyer and is, to say the least, a head scratcher.
Well, JF deleted the tweet in question – and apparently blocked me for pointing it out.

Granted, the meaning behind the slogan comes from the words and qualities below it, all of which could add up to football talent. Still, the choice of saying “No Talent Required” isn’t exactly the best idea.
Keep in mind that the Nittany Lions have gone 7-6 in two consecutive seasons and next year’s roster is going to look a lot different, namely in that quarterback Christian Hackenberg is headed to the NFL. Thus, saying “No talent required” makes it sound like James Franklin is desperate to put together a roster and is welcoming any warm bodies.
Hopefully, the program does not descend into such chaos.
