Today marks the 32nd ever Wrestlemania, the annual event that every professional wrestling fan looks forward to on a regular basis. This year’s card is on the weaker side, but there is one match in particular that looks like it could become the new normal for what many call “The Grandaddy of Them All.”
That match is the ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship, in which champion Kevin Owens will defend his title against six other WWE Superstars: Sin Cara, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Stardust, Zack Ryder and longtime foe Sami Zayn. 2016 marks the second year in a row that the IC title has been up for grabs in such a match, with Daniel Bryan having won it last year.
But the Intercontinental Championship is a significant one, easily second on the totem pole behind the big gold belt that every star covets. The IC title has been around since 1979 and has most traditionally been held by the company workhorse, king of the upper midcard, whatever you want to call it.
That said, as we count down the hours until ‘Mania kicks off, let’s take a trip back through history and count down the top 10 IC champions of all time.
