Tom Izzo honored by MSU in tribute video after HOF announcement

Michigan State today released a tribute video honoring longtime head men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo after it was announced that he would be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.

The video was posted to the basketball program’s official Twitter.

Izzo is part of quite the Hall of Fame class, one that also features former NBA stars Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson as well as WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes. Since taking over the Spartans following longtime coach Jud Heathcote’s retirement in 1995, Izzo has gone 524-205 (246-111 Big Ten) with five conference championships, four trips to the Final Four and a national championship won in 2000.

There is no denying that Tom Izzo is deserving of such an honor, even if his Spartans did suffer a stunning first round loss to No. 15 Middle Tennessee in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

The man defines Michigan State basketball and will be there for many more years to come, and the fact that he is being enshrined in such pleasant company is a testament to his strength as a coach.
