NFL Draft 2016: 49ers talked to Titans about No. 1 pick

The San Francisco 49ers recently reached out to the Tennessee Titans about acquiring the first overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, according to what sources told Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.

This would indeed suggest that the Niners are dead set on selecting a quarterback later this month, but don’t have much confidence in either Cal’s Jared Goff or North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz being available when their turn comes at No. 7. That said, the call that San Francisco GM Trent Baalke made to Titans GM Jon Robinson was probably to get an idea of what trading for the No. 1 pick would cost.

Moreover, this is just another piece of mounting evidence that the 49ers are ready to move on from Colin Kaepernick, who is due $11.9 million this season and is recovering from three surgeries he has had since November. On top of that, his production has dramatically slipped since leading San Francisco to a Super Bowl nearly four seasons ago.

Either way, the countdown to the NFL Draft is sure to be full of drama, so be sure to stay tuned to Campus Sports for updates!
