Former NBA star Lamar Odom has been in the news for all the wrong reasons as of late, but a friend and former teammate of his in Cuttino Mobley thinks the man can still play in the NBA.
Mobley, who played with Odom at Rhode Island and spent 11 seasons in the NBA, recently spoke to TMZ and said that after meeting with Odom recently, he is convinced that he could still play professionally if given the chance.
Odom has other problems to work on first, obviously, as he has dealt with major health problems in the past and nearly died of a drug overdose six months ago. Given that, though Mobley noted that playing in the NBA could help Odom with his recovery, finding a team willing to take a flier on him could prove to be tough.
Still, there’s no denying that Odom was great at what he did when healthy. He could work in the paint, stretch the floor to hit the occasional three, and was just a great locker room presence. Hopefully, the 35-year-old can get his life together and earn the chance at one last hurrah.
