Mark Fox’s plane nearly hit another on the runway

Georgia Bulldogs head men’s basketball coach Mark Fox was flying from Atlanta to Miami today to see Miami Heat assistant Keith Smart, who is currently battling cancer and has known Fox since the 1980s, but almost didn’t make it.

According to ESPN, the plane carrying Fox came to “a screeching halt” after it nearly hit another plane that was on the runway. Scott Fowler of The Charlotte Observer was also on the flight and reported that there was indeed a brief panic, but that the plane ultimately returned to the gate so the brakes could “cool off” and undergo another maintenance check. Instead of taking off shortly after 10 a.m. ET as planned, the Delta flight did not depart until after noon and has since landed safely.

Of course, Fox also tweeted about what happened and praised the pilot.

Hopefully, Fox doesn’t have to relive this experience ever again!
