The Cleveland Browns kicked off Day 3 of the 2016 NFL Draft by selecting Wisconsin linebacker Joe Schobert with the No. 99 pick, continuing to shore up their defense for the upcoming season under coach Hue Jackson.
A former walk-on with the Badgers, Schobert broke out in 2015 and had 76 tackles (20 for a loss) with 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. In three years at Wisconsin, he had 154 tackles (33.5 for a loss) and 13 sacks with six forced fumbles.
Just how much Schobert will play as a rookie remains to be seen, but his work ethic has to be off the charts as a former walk-on. His determination to succeed is there and he plays with a chip on his shoulder, being just 6-foot-1, 244 pounds. On a Browns team that will have to fight tooth and nail to take steps forward in 2016, he thus is a fine fit.
