UFC fighter Matt Brown attacked at hotel in Brazil after UFC 198

It has been a wild few days for UFC welterweight Matt Brown, who faced Demian Maia on the preliminary card of UFC 198 on Saturday. At the weigh-ins for the event on Friday, Brown caused an uproar when he turned his back to the Brazilian crowd and flipped the double bird.

On Saturday, the crowd got back at Brown while interfering with his walkout. After a third strike to the head, Brown was clearly irritated by the crowd.

However, after the fight, which was a loss to Maia, Brown was respectful to his opponent and the crowd on his way out of Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.

Unfortunately, Brown was involved in another incident on Sunday at the fighter hotel.

According to eye witnesses, Brown was in the hotel when he was sucker punched in the back of the head by his former jiu jitsu coach, Rodrigo Botti. Botti allegedly tried to flee the scene after hitting Brown, but he was chased down by some members of Brown’s team and was beaten in the streets of Brazil.

It was an ugly situation all around, but luckily the two were separated and officials, including Reed Harris, intervened.

Brown and Botti have a long history together, so it will be interesting to see what development comes next.
