Cooper Bateman has slight lead as Alabama QB

For the third straight year, the Alabama Crimson Tide don’t know who their starting quarterback is going into the summer. However, their most experienced quarterback, Cooper Bateman, seems to be in line to win the starting job.

Despite Bateman reportedly holding a slight lead for the position, head coach Nick Saban doesn’t seem too keen on making a decision just yet. He spoke with ESPN about the quarterback battle at the SEC spring meetings on Thursday.

“It’s going to be a good race because all four have done some good things,” Saban said.

Those four at this time are Bateman, Jalen Hurts, David Cornwell, and Blake Barnett. Bateman actually had the chance to play in the 2015 season including starting the Ole Miss game, the only game Alabama lost.

“That experience helped him to be a little more consistent in the spring,” Saban said.

In six games last year, Cooper Bateman threw for 291 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions. He didn’t wow anyone with his numbers, but he mostly played a backup role to Jacob Coker.

It should be very interesting to see who is going to be the starting quarterback when the Crimson Tide roll into AT&T Stadium on September 3 to play the USC Trojans.
