Report: Alabama denies DB Maurice Smith’s release

It was reported last month that Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Maurice Smith was set to transfer from the program. However, things may be a little more complicated with reports that Alabama has denied his release from scholarship.

The situation was detailed by al.com.

Smith will graduate later this summer, which means he will be graduate transfer and eligible to play immediately.

While he has not officially been released by Alabama, he was given permission to speak to other teams back in mid-June. Since receiving that permission, Smith has had discussions with programs like Georgia, Miami, Maryland, Louisville and USC.

Smith is Alabama’s top nickel cornerback, so you can see why they would like to keep him on the roster.

However, if there is an opportunity to advance his career at another school, let’s hope the Crimson Tide due the proper thing and allow Smith to finish his career wherever he chooses.
