Bowling Green alternate helmet honors fallen Falcons heroes

The Bowling Green Falcons will join a popular trend of alternate uniforms going into the 2016 season, but they will have a special twist to theirs. On Tuesday, they revealed new helmets with the decal being adorned with the American flag that they will wear at some point this year.

The Falcons have always had a soft spot for honoring the nation’s military and when they take the field against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Sept. 10, they will do so once again.

Not only does their alternate helmet have the “BG” logo painted with the stars and stripes, but the brown stripe going down the middle of the helmet also honors 111 former Bowling Green students that have been killed in the line of duty.

The Falcons have honored the military in the past as they wore helmets with patriotic facemasks, logos, and center stripes last season, as well as wearing a similar look to the 2016 helmets in the 2012 Military Bowl against San Jose State.
