Joe Warren vs. Sirwan Kakai set for Bellator 161 co-main event

The return of former Bellator featherweight and bantamweight champion Joe Warren is set. On Wednesday, Bellator officials announced Warren will return to action to take on Sirwan Kakai in the co-main event of Bellator 161.

Warren returns to the cage for the first time since suffering a submission loss to Darrion Caldwell in March.

Kakai, meanwhile, enters the bout on a two-fight losing streak. Kakai dropped a split-decision to Frankie Saenz under the UFC banner in August of last year before dropping his Bellator debut on March 4.

Kakai will be looking to get back to his winning ways in September.

Bellator 161 — which is headlined by a heavyweight scrap between Cheick Kongo and Tony Johnson — takes place on Sept. 16 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, Texas. Bellator 161 also features the return of promising woman’s flyweight standout Anastasia Yankova.

The updated fight card for Bellator 161 can be seen below:

  • Heavyweight Main Event: Cheick Kongo (24-10-2) vs. Tony Johnson (10-2)
  • Bantamweight Co-Main Event: Joe Warren (13-5) vs. Sirwan Kakai (12-4)
  • Flyweight Feature Bout: Anastasia Yankova (3-0) vs. Veta Arteaga (2-0)
