The Tennessee Volunteers look like a team that could compete for an SEC championship and possibly a spot in the College Football Playoff. They may have some other off-the-field problems to attend first, however.
It was reported by 247Sports’ John Brice on Wednesday that the Volunteers had placed director of football operations Chris Spognardi on administrative leave. There is no details on what led to him being relieved of his duties, but it might serve as a distraction for the Volunteers going into the 2016 season.

This could end up being a very interesting situation to watch for the next few weeks going into the season. If there is anything that happened that might cause a distraction, head coach Butch Jones is going to have to keep his team focused on the task at hand.
The Volunteers open the season on Sept. 1 when they face off against Appalachian State.
