Ben Rothwell injured, out of UFC 203 vs. Fabricio Werdum

On Thursday, news surfaced that a highly-anticipated heavyweight showdown between Ben Rothwell and Fabricio Werdum — which was slated for the UFC 203 co-main event — will have to wait.

Rothwell suffered an injury during training that has forced him out of the bout.

As a result, the promotion is looking for a replacement to take on the former champion Werdum on short notice. MMAjunkie.com was first to report the news and UFC officials have yet to comment.

UFC 203 takes place at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Sept. 10.

It marks the first time the UFC has ever held an event in the city and will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between local fighter and current champion Stipe Miocic against top challenger Alistair Overeem.

With Rothwell’s removal from the event, the updated UFC 203 fight card can be seen below:
