Urban Meyer says Cincinnati ‘should be in Big 12’

There are currently 17 different teams vying for a spot in the Big 12 and the Cincinnati Bearcats were one of the original teams looking to make the move into the Power Five. It looks like they have just gotten a glowing endorsement from one of the most influential names in college football.

With the idea of expansion looming, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, an alumnus of Cincinnati, spoke with reporters on Sunday and talked about how the Bearcats deserved to be in the Big 12.

“I’m a graduate and a fan,” Meyer said, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. “I think they should be in the Big 12.”

The Bearcats are one of four schools labeled as favorites to be added to the conference, joining BYU, Connecticut and Houston. It certainly seems like Cincinnati could be making a big jump in the coming weeks.

Meyer isn’t the first person to endorse the Bearcats’ move to the Big 12. Ohio Governor John Kasich sent a letter to Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby imploring them to add the school, which would give the state two universities in the Power Five.
