The mixed martial arts gods giveth, and they taketh away. On Friday, TMZ Sports reported a dream match up between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone at UFC 205 in New York proved too good to be true.
Per the report, Lawler, the former welterweight champion, was forced to withdraw from the bout which was set to take place on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden.
No reason was given for Lawler’s withdrawal.
Lawler last competed at UFC 201 in Atlanta, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Tyron Woodley to lose his title.
There is also no word on who Cerrone will face at the event, but UFC officials are reportedly seeking a replacement. If Cerrone, who has three straight wins since moving to 170 pounds, can secure another big win over a top opponent, he could find himself soon knocking on the door of a title shot.
